Frequently asked
Questions people ask before they reserve.
How is this different from the World Marathon Challenge?
They share an organizer and almost nothing else. The World Marathon Challenge® is seven continents in seven days against a 168-hour clock: you sleep on the aircraft, and the locations are chosen for logistics. This is seven wonders in fourteen days: you sleep in a hotel every night, spend every afternoon inside a wonder, and there are no cut-offs. One is a record attempt. This is a journey.
Do I have to be fast?
No. The schedule is built around the last finisher. Two starting waves ninety minutes apart mean a seven-hour runner and a three-hour runner finish inside the same window, and the aircraft does not leave until everyone is on it. You do need to have finished two marathons in the last two years, one of them under six and a half hours.
What if I cannot finish one of them?
You get in the sweep vehicle, you get a lift to the finish, and you start the next one the following morning. Your journey is not over. We recognise both completing all seven and completing the journey, and nobody on this trip will treat those differently.
Can my partner come if they do not run?
Yes — that is exactly what the companion place is for. Every flight, hotel, guided visit and dinner is included, and they can run a half marathon or 10 km at any wonder they choose, with the same finish line and the same medal ceremony. Many companions end up running more of them than they planned.
What is the aircraft like?
A private aircraft chartered for the group for the whole fourteen days, with more than twice as many seats as passengers — so everyone has a row to themselves. Put the armrests up and lie down. Most of the cabin is standard seating and we do not pretend otherwise; but you sleep in a hotel every night, so the aircraft is daytime transport, not a bed. No flight is longer than eight and a half hours.
Do I really sleep in a hotel every night?
Every night. Thirteen nights, ten cities, all four- and five-star, single occupancy, chosen mainly for how close they are to the next start line — at Giza you can walk from the finish line to your own shower.
How many visas will I need?
It depends on your passport. The seven wonders sit in seven countries — Italy, Egypt, Jordan, India, China, Mexico and Brazil — and there is one more border in between: an overnight in Anchorage, in the United States. Eight countries in total. We provide invitation letters, itineraries and confirmations for each, and we start the day you register. The US stop is the one that needs the most lead time.
Why is there a stop in Anchorage?
Geography. Anchorage is the shortest way over the top of the Pacific from Beijing to Mexico. It turns out to be one of the best days of the trip: because the route crosses the date line, you run the Great Wall in the morning and land in Alaska the same afternoon, with a free evening that nobody expected.
Is Antarctica part of this?
Not this edition. The seven wonders here are all cultural, and all seven can be run and visited properly in fourteen days. If the ice is what you are after, our Antarctic Ice Marathon® and the World Marathon Challenge® both go there every season.
What is the medical support?
A doctor and two physiotherapists travel with the group for the whole journey, plus local medical teams and ambulances on every course. Medical insurance with emergency evacuation cover is mandatory, and we specify the minimum cover in your registration pack.
Will this run again?
Yes. Seven Wonders Marathons™ is planned as an annual journey, and the wonders will not always be the same seven. The first edition is the first edition, though, and there are only sixty runner places in it.
Can I pay in instalments?
A deposit of US$15,000 reserves your place and the balance is due 180 days before departure. If you would like to spread the balance over that period, tell us and we will arrange it.
